How is Modern Home Help different?
Modern Home Help was created by busy homeowners and technology experts looking to get more done in less time. Homeowners want someone who can reliably help with a long list of small tasks, but handymen want a predictable stream of work without constantly searching for the next customer. We vet top handypeople, hire them directly, and cut out time-consuming adminstrative tasks like phone calls to improve life for our homeowners and our servicepeople at the same time.
What services can my handyman perform?
Each handyman can do a long list of tasks and can be booked for one or more short "visits" to complete them. These include minor plumbing like showerhead replacement, drain clearing, minor electrical like installing a smart doorbell, light painting and touchups, electronic wiring, appliance maintenance including for washer/dryer, dishwasher, refrigerator, and water heater, sprinkler head maintenance, and many more generalist handyman jobs.
How often will my handyman visit my home?
Members can easily book 24 visits per year through our convenient app. Each visit is 1 hour and 45 minutes, including about 15 minutes for cleaning up, documenting work completed, and helping to prepare for future visits (taking measurements, researching materials, etc). Typically a handyperson will complete 2 or 3 tasks during a visit, post photos in your app, and mark each task as completed when done. Any tasks not completed can simply be tackled during your next session.
What is included in my membership?
You get access to easily book your dedicated handyperson, who will visit your home for 1 hour 45 minute visits. During visits, your handyperson completes tasks that you create, and also suggests proactive maintenance like replacing HVAC filters, changing light bulbs, cleaning dryer vents, replacing faucet aerators, checking your water heater anode, and dozens of other maintenance tasks many homeowners miss. When jobs are too big or complex for a handyman to perform, we refer members to specialists. Example jobs that require a specialist include resurfacing your driveway, major renovations, tree removal, heavy-duty landscaping, snaking your main water line, installing new flooring, and replacing your roof.
What if I need a specialist?
For advanced jobs or larger projects that require a specialist, like a plumber, electrician, roofer, or appliance repair expert, we refer members to trusted local service providers, so you save time on larger jobs too.
Is service insured?
Yes
How would we manage parts and materials?
If you want to supply all parts and materials, that's great! Or, if you prefer to have your handyperson save you the trouble of visiting a store or selecting the right materials (e.g. paint), we can shop for you, pass along the cost of materials, and add a flat $20 convenience fee for each service visit where you ask us to go to the store to buy parts and materials on your behalf.
